..Stratophase demonstrates new optical sensor technology for reliable compositional measurements in volatile environments at ChemEng08

• Stand 86 - ChemEng08, 28-30th October, NEC Birmingham

At ChemEng08 Stratophase will be demonstrating its recently launched unique SpectroSens optical sensor chip technology. Capable of detecting even the most minute changes in the chemical composition of liquids the SpectroSens offers chemical manufacturers a cost effective inline option for multipoint refractive index measurements.

With precision better than one part per million SpectroSens sensors are unaffected by electromagnetic interference, suitable for use in flammable environments and simple to integrate - making it ideal for realtime process control.

The robust, self-referenced sensor chips can be used in any liquid processing application. Perfectly suited to use in laboratories and for on site point testing, multiple sensors can also be optically networked over large areas to a single readout unit, offering economical multipoint measurements.

Using optical signals means that the SpectroSens devices do not need electrical power, and are therefore intrinsically safe in flammable environments, making the technology a cost-effective option for use in hazardous areas, or with combustible chemicals.

The flexible configuration possibilities, the elimination of batch testing and the real-time process information offered by the SpectroSens sensors make them a versatile and attractive solution for all kinds of industrial processing.

The ability to make multiwavelength measurements at a single point also offers the potential to compositionally 'fingerprint' liquids, further increasing the depth of information available to the user.

Stratophase has developed the SpectroSens technology based on proven science from the telecoms, optics and biotech sectors. The technology also has applications in pharmaceutical manufacture, life sciences R&D and food and drink manufacturing.
