Laser 2007
18th – 21st June 2007
Stand No: B2.770

World’s first integrated multi-laser engine is launched at LASER 2007

Point Source announces iFLEX-Viper™, a new concept in laser engine technology, on Stand B2.770 at LASER 2007. iFLEX-Viper is the world’s first high-quality, ready-to-go multi-laser engine, and a major breakthrough for OEMs. A single ‘black box’ solution suitable for a wide range of precision instrumentation, iFLEX-Viper allows manufacturers to get their new products to market much more quickly than in the past, for significant competitive advantage.

iFLEX-Viper features Point Source’s robust kineFLEX fiber optic technology for flexibility in instrument design and improved performance over conventional optical systems. It is ideal for use in the fast-growing pharmaceutical and biotechnology markets for applications such as confocal microscopy and DNA sequencing.

iFLEX-Viper incorporates up to six laser wavelengths, covering the entire visible spectrum range from 405 to 640nm. It includes a mix-and-match choice of diode, gas and DPSS laser types with a power of up to 50mW per line and low optical noise (0.25%rms).

David Pointer explains: “No longer will manufacturers have to specify a complete bespoke laser engine system for each new instrument they design. The iFLEX-Viper will allow them to configure instruments to meet a wide range of needs, cost-effectively. Judging by the feedback we are getting from customers, iFLEX-Viper is the high-quality, multi-purpose solution that the market has been waiting for.”

Single-mode fiber optic laser delivery means smaller, neater instrument designs because of the flexibility it allows in routing of the laser beam. It also reduces beam-pointing instability, and protects the instrument from the heat and vibration caused by gas lasers. When used with a diode laser, the single-mode fiber actually improves the performance of the instrument.

iFLEX-Viper is supplied in a robust enclosure measuring 250 x 240 x 70mm with a three metre fiber cable. The fiber output can be specified from a range of standard footprints with circular, elliptical and flat-top beam options.
