Hamble laser solutions company poised for major expansion

Point Source, a world-leading laser technology company, has announced plans
for major expansion in 2007.
The company, which is experiencing 30% year-on-year growth, is investing £1 million in additional state-of-the-art research and development facilities at its UK headquarters in Hamble, creating around 10 new engineering jobs.
It is also opening a new office in Singapore to lead its sales drive in Asia and appointing a distribution network in Japan.
Point Source supplies high precision laser and fibre optic systems to manufacturers of bio-medical instrumentation and semiconductors.
While celebrating its international success - the company won a Queen’s Award for Export in 2002 - Point Source is also proud of its Southampton heritage. Founder and Managing Director, David Pointer, is a University of Southampton alumnus and started the company in the city in 1991. Point Source has been at its current Hamble site since 2001 and the company regularly gets involved in the local community, including events for Hamble Week and sponsoring the local Sea Scouts for example.
David said: “I think that businesses are part of the local community, and therefore we should be supportive of the community needs.
“It is a very exciting time for us. We have seen steady growth in our business in Europe and USA over the past four years and are increasingly doing business in Asia, particularly in Japan. However we’re also delighted to be able to contribute to the local economy and our expansion will create jobs for local people.”
