Laser solutions company poised for major expansion
Southampton, UK, 22 Jan 07: Point Source, the world leader in Flexible Laser TechnologyTM for precision optical instrumentation, has announced plans for major expansion in 2007. The company, which is experiencing 30% year-on-year growth, is opening a new office in Singapore to lead its sales drive in Asia, appointing a distribution network in Japan and investing £1M in additional state-of-the-art R&D facilities at its UK headquarters.
Point Source supplies manufacturers of bio-medical instrumentation and semiconductor manufacturing equipment with high precision laser and fiber systems. The company’s product range includes single-mode laser to fiber couplers, fiber-coupled lasers (UV, visible and near-IR) and fully-customised OEM solutions. Point Source laser and fiber systems, which are designed with very high reliability for the most demanding applications, are installed in over 60% of all semi-conductor lithography tools worldwide.
“We have seen steady growth in our business in Europe and USA over the past four years,” says Managing Director David Pointer. “We are now increasingly doing business in Asia, particularly in Japan. We are also getting involved in new projects all over the world in growth sectors such as semi-conductor lithography and flow cytometry. We have just received a major order (more than $3.5M) from a company involved in high throughput DNA analysis. This is a very exciting time for Point Source.”
Laser performance and reliability are major issues for OEMs and the users of their equipment, especially in high value processes such as drug discovery and semiconductor manufacturing.
