Stand No. 9047
Professional Motorsport World Expo, Cologne, Germany
6 – 8 November 2007
Hall effect linear position sensor for extreme motorsport environments
Penny
+ Giles will be exhibiting its new sealed linear contactless sensor for
the motorsport market, the SLH100, at Professional Motorsport World Expo,
stand 9047. Also on display will be the company’s popular range of
non-contact SRH280 sealed rotary sensors, which will shortly include a new
version that operates from a low 5Vdc regulated supply and will also have
programmable features.
Unlike potentiometers, SLH100 can operate in high dither vibration conditions
with no deterioration to the sensing element. Being contactless, it is attractive
for use in harsh environments where particles, moisture, high temperature
and vibration can be present and as a result it offers maximum performance
in a variety of racing vehicles, including single-seat cars, sports cars,
touring cars and motorbikes.
The ultra-compact sensing system comprises two parts – the sensor
and the magnetic activator. The sensor is offered with a 28mm measuring
range and it has an operating temperature of –40 to +125 degrees C.
SLH100 is a fully encapsulated electronic device that operates from a 5Vdc
regulated or 8-30Vdc unregulated power supply and it features an on-board
micro controller that linearises the Hall sensor output to better than 1%
over the 28mm total range.
The sensor has a virtually infinite life and provides a highly reliable
solution for absolute position sensing problems. It is maintenance-free
and is easy to fit - it is simply screwed in to place with two M3 screws.
The linear Hall effect sensor is the latest in the range of Hall effect
sensors from Penny + Giles which includes the popular SRH280 rotary sensor.
All products are manufactured at Penny + Giles’ ISO9001 certified
facility.
