Morgan Technical Ceramics wins multi-million pound contract for vehicle armour
Leading
materials specialist, Morgan Technical Ceramics (MTC), has won a multi-million
pound contract with NP Aerospace to supply ceramic components for vehicle
armour panels. The deal was signed after a successful evaluation of the
MTC products, which were chosen for their high performance and excellent
protective capabilities.
MTC's world-renowned materials expertise and ability to manufacture complex
geometries were instrumental in securing the contract, which will involve
the supply of products over the next six months.
The parts are produced at the company's Stourport (UK) facility, which has
a centre of excellence for materials preparation and capabilities to manufacture
and supply high volumes. The products being supplied to NP Aerospace range
from 20mm2 and 2mm thickness to 100mm2 and 30mm thick.
"We are able to work closely with customers to develop solutions that
offer high personal and vehicle protection, and allow high mobility without
compromising survivability", says Simon Jones, Business Unit Sales
Manager, Morgan Technical Ceramics. "The project took just seven months
from concept to production, which was quicker than initial expectations.
We developed the material, optimised production processes and have significantly
increased our capacity for this product."
The site also supplies a range of ceramic materials to its sister sites
at Rugby (UK) and Waldkraiburg (Germany) for their ballistics business.
