Innovative water recycling scheme achieves MCERTS certification
The
East Sussex National Golf Resort and Spa is keeping its championship courses
green with an innovative water re-cycling scheme designed by Bio-Bubble,
specialists in environment-sensitive wastewater treatment. The scheme, which
includes primary, and secondary treatment and final effluent flow measurement,
has been MCERTS certified by Emerson Process Management’s Mobrey Measurement
Division.
All water utility consent holders - even small scale private schemes like
this one - must have their sites inspected by an MCERTS inspector whose
job it is to check that flow structures and instrumentation are accurately
recording treated effluent data. The East Sussex National Golf Resort and
Spa treatment works is designed to treat wastewater up to a maximum flow
of 76m3 per day - a population equivalent of approximately 380 people. This
includes hotel guests, visitors to the resorts restaurant, bar, function
room and leisure facilities and staff.
When rainfall is low in the summer months, treated water from the plant
can be used to water the golf courses, minimising the amount of additional
water required and ensuring that the East Sussex National Golf Resort can
keep its greens in tip-top condition in an environmentally responsible way,
even through a water shortage.
“This is a fine example of how innovative use of water can benefit
business and the environment,” says MCERTS inspector Peter Ward. “The
Bio-Bubble-designed scheme is an excellent one. We hope to be certifying
many more such small scale recycling projects in the future as business
gets to grips with the issue of responsible water management.”
