World’s first cost-effective solution for everyday performance testing of copper AND fibre cable
Ideal
Industries has launched its new SIGNALTEK™-FO cable
performance tester, the world’s first everyday qualifier
for both copper and fibre networks. For the first time datacomm
installers, electrical contractors and IT/network managers
can use one qualifier to check that installed fibre and copper
cabling can support voice, video and data applications.
SIGNALTEK™-FO offers all of the popular features of
Ideal Industries’ existing SIGNALTEK™ qualifier
- such as Gigabit Ethernet qualification and active link testing
- with the added benefit of fibre optic qualification.
Traditional power meter/light source kits typically only measure
the attenuation of fibre optic links. As Gigabit Ethernet
becomes the standard for backbone and zone fibre optic cabling,
attenuation testing alone may not be enough to guarantee error-free
performance. SIGNALTEK™-FO’s Bit Error Rate Testing
(BERT) adds assurance that fibre optic links can support high-speed
data in line with IEEE 802.3ab standards.
In addition to fibre optic cables, SIGNALTEK™-FO can
test other cable types including twisted pair data, coax,
telephone, security alarm and audio cables.
SIGNALTEK™-FO can also be configured to run for several
minutes or even hours at a time to stress test the link for
dropped packets. This monitoring mode allows SIGNALTEK™-FO
to be used in place of traditional monitoring tools that can
cost thousands of pounds.
Unlike a certification tester, SIGNALTEK™-FO does not
certify installations to EIA/TIA or ISO/IEC fibre optic standards,
or copper standards such as Cat5e/Class D or Cat 6/Class E,
so it cannot be used to validate a manufacturer’s warranty.
Instead it provides a simple pass/fail test to qualify a network’s
ability to run certain applications such as Gigabit Ethernet
by testing to the appropriate IEEE standard.
Tony Kumeta, Ideal Industries’ European General Manager,
said:
“SIGNALTEK™-FO is the perfect, cost-effective
solution for contractors working on smaller copper and fibre
installations where certification is not required or demanded
by the customer.
“As fibre in networks becomes more prevalent it is also
an invaluable tool for IT or network managers looking to prove
that their own constantly changing network is functioning
optimally after moves, adds and changes, or prior to a cabling
upgrade.”
Ideal Industries’ SIGNALTEK™-FO starts from only
£1,375.00 excl. VAT (€1,995.00). There are three
kits available with a variety of SFP (Small Form Factor Pluggable)
fibre optic module options. All kits come with a carrying
case, fibre optic cable accessory kit, a CD-rom user manual
and training DVD. For more information please visit www.idealindustries.co.uk,
