Ideal’s LANTEK® 7 is the only handheld field tester to be independently verified to Level IV accuracy draft standard

IDEAL INDUSTRIES has achieved an endorsement of its network certification testing technology from the ETL SEMKO division of Intertek. Ideal’s LANTEK® 7 cable tester is the first to be independently verified as having met the Level IV Baseline, Channel, and Permanent Link accuracy requirements as specified in the IEC SC46A subcommittee draft IEC document. The document in its final form will become part of IEC Standard IEC 61935-1, which is a referenced document in ISO 11801.

Level IV accuracy assures customers that LANTEK® 7 complies with the stringent requirements for testing and certifying Class F / Category 7 LAN cable systems per ISO Standard 11801. Intertek had previously verified the Ideal LANTEK® 6 and LANTEK® 7 testers for Level III accuracy.

According to Jim Anastasi, Intertek’s Technical Manager, Global Cabling Products Testing: "Intertek will visit the IDEAL production site twice a year on an unannounced basis and randomly pick LANTEK® 7 units for verification. We will also verify IDEAL’s in-house testing methods."

Because Intertek visits the Ideal production site and randomly selects units for testing, customers can be sure that no special ‘golden’ units are submitted for verification and that every LANTEK® 7 produced is now fully Level IV compliant before shipment.

“The ETL mark is a trusted, third party verification to installers, network administrators and manufacturers that Ideal testers are a reliable, quality technology,” said Tony Kumeta, Business Manager, Ideal Industries. “It is important customers recognise that ETL independently tested the LANTEK® 7 to the Level IV accuracy limits that are in the current IEC draft and not to the relaxed, less stringent measurement limits that have been proposed by some parties. Customers should consider whether to trust an impartial lab such as the ETL to verify Level IV accuracy or to trust a manufacturer performing their own tests, in-house, to their own arbitrary standards. I think the answer is obvious.”

Ideal’s LANTEK® testers are purpose-built for network installation and troubleshooting in copper and fibre environments. The LANTEK® 7 is the world's first cable tester able to measure up to 750 MHz and capable of certifying to the full 600 MHz range specified in the Category 7/ISO F standards.

The draft IEC 61935-1 document circulated in March 2004 is likely to remain unchanged when it comes under review in September 2004 and looks set to be fully ratified by mid-2005.

Le LANTEK® 7 de Ideal est le seul testeur vérificateur portatif qui ait été vérifié par un organisme indépendant, pour sa conformité avec la norme provisoire sur la précision - Niveau IV

IDEAL INDUSTRIES a obtenu l’homologation pour sa technologie de test et de certification de réseaux par la division ETL SEMKO d’Intertek. Le vérificateur de câble LANTEK® 7 d’Ideal est le premier appareil dont la conformité aux normes de précision Niveau IV Baseline, Channel, et Permanent Link, spécifiées dans le document provisoire du sous-comité du CEI SC46A, a été vérifiée par un organisme indépendant. Sous sa forme finale, ce document fera partie de la norme CEI 61935-1 du CEI, document référencé sous ISO 11801.

La précision Niveau IV a pour but d’assurer aux clients que le LANTEK® 7 soit conforme aux exigences sévères de test et de certification de conformité des systèmes de câbles Classe F / Catégorie 7 LAN à la norme ISO 11801. Auparavant, Intertek avait déjà contrôlé les vérificateurs LANTEK® 6 et LANTEK® 7 pour la précision au Niveau III.

D’après Jim Anastasi, directeur technique d’Intertek pour les essais de câbles à l’échelon mondial (Global Cabling Products Testing) : "Intertek effectuera, deux fois par an, des visites surprises sur le site de production d’IDEAL, et sélectionnera au hasard des appareils LANTEK® 7 pour les soumettre à des contrôles. En outre, nous vérifierons également les méthodes d’essai internes d’IDEAL."

Le fait qu’Intertek visite le site de production d’IDEAL et sélectionne, de façon aléatoire, des appareils pour les soumettre à des tests, assure aux clients qu’Ideal ne se contente pas de soumettre des appareils "parfaits" aux contrôles, et que chaque LANTEK® 7 produit est maintenant entièrement conforme au Niveau IV avant d’être expédié.

Comme l’affirme Tony Kumeta, Business Manager d’Ideal Industries, "le label ETL offre aux installateurs, aux administrateurs de réseau et aux constructeurs, une confirmation indépendante qui garantit que les vérificateurs Ideal sont des produits dotés d’une technologie de qualité fiable. Il est important que les clients soient conscients du fait qu’ETL vérifie en toute indépendance le LANTEK® 7 conformément aux limites de précision du Niveau IV, prévues dans le projet de texte actuel du CEI, et non pas dans les limites moins sévères proposées par certaines parties. Les clients doivent se demander à qui ils doivent faire le plus confiance : à un laboratoire impartial, comme ETL, chargé du contrôle de la précision au Niveau IV, ou bien à un constructeur qui effectue ses propres tests internes, en conformité à ses propres règles arbitraires. A mon avis, la réponse à cette question ne fait aucun doute".

Les vérificateurs LANTEK® d’Ideal sont réalisés tout spécialement pour l’installation de réseaux et le dépistage de défauts dans des environnements en cuivre et fibre. Le LANTEK® 7 est le premier vérificateur de câbles au monde capable d’effectuer des mesures jusqu’à 750 MHz, et de certifier des appareils jusqu’à la gamme intégrale des 600 MHz spécifiée dans les normes Catégorie 7/ISO F.

Le document provisoire CEI 61935-1, diffusé en mars 2004, ne sera probablement pas modifié lors de la révision prévue en septembre 2004, et il devrait être entièrement ratifié d’ici la mi-2005.
