Webb Communications makes significant savings in cable test

Webb Communications, part of the Corporate Solutions Group, has invested in Ideal Industries LANTEK 6 handheld cable testers and fibre optic tester modules, for verifying all its copper and fibre data cabling installations across the UK. Ideal’s LANTEK 6 replaces the LT8600 Wavetek testers previously used by Webb.

“Comparing LANTEK with other cable testers, we were impressed with the overall user-friendly functionality of Ideal’s offering,” comments Peter Day, Technical Manager, Webb Communications. “What impressed us most were life cycle costs. LANTEK testers use standard patchcords for permanent and channel link testing, instead of expensive test adapters or modules so we have been able to make significant savings.”

Jason Holyroyd, LAN Sales Manager for NW Europe, Ideal Industries explains: “Typical Category 6 test adapters cost around £170 per set compared to only £10 for two Category 6 patchcords. For an installer such as Webb, who install approximately 100,000 points a year, the savings from using the LANTEK solution amounts to at least £16,000 when compared to using testers from our competitors.”
