New clamp meters with unique 2nd display provides safe, reliable measurements in hard-to-reach panel boards
IDEAL
INDUSTRIES has launched a line of safe, convenient and high
performance clamp meters. The 1000A and 600A clamp meters
are purpose-built to meet the needs of electricians working
in industrial and commercial applications, and are especially
effective for measuring high-voltage systems in tight, hard-to-reach
panel boards. Available in five models, the new meters are
the world's first to have the patented TightSight™ display
built into the bottom of the testers to enable electricians
to view the display from virtually any angle.
“Our clamp meter series is the result of detailed focus groups with electricians and site engineers. We wanted to find which features were liked and which weren’t. We also wanted to understand the challenges being faced by electricians that are not being met by traditional clamp meter designs,” explains Tony Kumeta, Business Manager, IDEAL INDUSTRIES. “The chief complaint was that when measuring cable with a standard clamp meter it is very difficult to clamp the meter onto a cable in a tight space or panel board. In addition, feedback indicated that the displays are not bright enough or are difficult to see because of the angle the unit is clamped at.”
To combat the display problem IDEAL created the TightSight™ liquid crystal display. Positioned on the bottom of the meter, TightSight™ allows users to view results at arm’s length, from almost any angle and in tight spots. The tester’s bright main display and large symbols are highlighted by a green glowing backlight that can be read from several feet away, whether the electrician is working in direct sunlight or complete darkness. When not in use a hinged rubber cover protects the display from the environment or accidental damage.
IDEAL also streamlined and tapered the clamp meter jaw to make it easier to manoeuvre through bundles of wire and to secure multiple conductors. It also has a unique hook tip on the end of the jaw for the purpose of separating individual wires from the bundle.
For safety, IDEAL’s clamp meters feature an exclusive high voltage indicator (HVI) that alerts the user if any voltage over 30V AC/DC is present. In practice, it is not uncommon for an electrician to set a clamp meter on the wrong function accidentally and after seeing that the display reads zero, believe a live wire is carrying no voltage. The IDEAL HVI beeps and blinks an LED to warn the user if voltage is present, no matter what function the meter is set on. The meters have also been independently tested and listed to the UL-61010B CAT IV-600V/CAT III-1000V safety rating.
The new clamp meters are available in several designs. IDEAL’s 770 series is a heavy-duty clamp meter for measuring in 1000A AC environments. It includes 50mm jaws for getting around phase conductors in larger bus bars. Models are available for large AC current applications and AC/DC testing. The 760 series covers every scenario up to 600A AC and is perfect for everything from routine current measurements to testing industrial motors. A number of models are available all with an array of different features e.g. True RMS, 1ms peak hold, data hold, frequency, etc.) Prices start from only £85.00 excluding VAT.
All meters are backed up by the IDEAL Lifetime Limited Warranty. For more information please contact IDEAL INDUSTRIES on 01925 444 446 or visit www.idealindustries.com.
