Fordway helps IT professionals optimise business efficiency
IT integrator Fordway is advising IT professionals that they can achieve a 50 per cent reduction in Helpdesk calls and hence significant cost savings by implementing Microsoft’s System Centre Service Manager effectively. However, research carried out by Fordway has shown that many organisations have not implemented the software, despite having bought it as part of their licence package.
Fordway is hosting a series of free seminars starting from the 20th January 2011 at Microsoft’s offices in Thames Valley Park, Reading, to help IT managers understand how they can make the best use of resources they already have to optimise their infrastructure and reduce operational costs.
“Up to 70% of an IT system’s total cost is incurred in maintenance,” says Richard Blanford, Fordway managing director. “Effectively managing your company's desktops is one of the best and quickest ways to help reduce total cost of ownership – and if you can do it using products you already have, you’re effectively getting something for nothing!”
Fordway advises companies to review their software licences as part of an overall IT optimisation programme to ensure they are taking advantage of all the features and services available to them.
“In our experience, an effectively managed desktop strategy has resulted in a reduction of between 30 and 50% of the number of staff on the service desk and second line support,” continues Blanford.
“The Service Centre Manager is a fantastic product, but many are unaware of the full functions and benefits it provides. For example, the self service portal gives more control to the user, allowing them to reset passwords, and can reduce help desk calls by up to 30%. The support staff can then be reassigned to other, more interesting roles, such as implementing virtualisation and developing new services.”
Microsoft Service Centre Manager delivers an integrated platform for automating and adapting IT service management best practices to an organisation’s requirements and is part of a Microsoft Suite of products that can be used effectively as part of a complete desktop strategy.
The products are among those recommended as part of Fordway’s Optimised Infrastructure, which enables organisations to improve their business efficiency, reduce IT infrastructure costs by up to 25 per cent, lower the risk of a business outage, improve resilience and speed of recovery in the event of a disaster and maximise the return on their investment.
It combines a 'best of breed' technology – including products from VMware, Commvault, Riverbed, Citrix and Compellent – with ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) process improvement and Fordway's APAC IT governance.
The seminars entitled The Microsoft Roadmap – helping business’ conquer business and technology priorities will show IT professionals how to maximise the business benefits, bring greater agility, mitigate risk and facilitate wider savings for their organisation.
