EDWARDS OPENS NEW SERVICE CENTRE IN BEIJING
Leading global manufacturer of vacuum equipment Edwards has opened a new service facility in Beijing, bringing support closer to its customers in northern China. The new centre will reduce servicing and turn-around time for customers in the region, enabling them to minimise downtime and increase business efficiency.
The new 700m2 facility is located at the Zhongguancun Science & Technology Industrial Park in Beijing and is Edwards’ second centre in China. It has been built to support its many customers in the industrial, solar, semiconductor, flat panel and rapidly growing LED sectors.
Edwards also plans to open a third service centre in Shenzhen later in the year, increasing support for customers in the south of the country.
“China is a key market for us and our investment in these new service centres demonstrates our commitment to our Chinese customers,” said Neil Lavender-Jones, president Asia Pacific of Edwards. “At least 60 per cent of Edwards’ business will be in Asia by 2012 and by having dedicated service facilities in northern and southern China we will be able to provide a faster turnaround for our products, which is vital to our customers in these high growth sectors.”
Edwards is a market leader in supplying dry and turbo pumps to the semiconductor, flat panel and silicon solar industries in China with more than 15,000 pumps installed. The company is also a market leader in providing abatement products to the Chinese semiconductor, flat panel and solar industries and has installed over 800 gas abatement systems locally.
The state-of-the-art facility in Beijing can service a wide range of Edwards’ wet and dry vacuum pumps with support for STP and EXT turbomolecular pumps. The facility has been designed using lean manufacturing methodology to provide a workflow layout that allows the pumps to be serviced in the most efficient way and returned to customers quickly. It includes a Citix web-based system, which ensures the most up-to-date procedures are used when servicing equipment. Furthermore, the facility is environmentally friendly with water and power consumption monitored closely.
The centre can handle the full range of customers’ after-sales needs, which include repairs, exchanges, refurbished product, spare parts and product upgrades. The company also provides field and on-site services as well as product and applications expertise via equipment health checks, technical support and training.
“At Edwards we are committed to supporting our customers’ businesses and making it as easy as possible for them to deal with us at a local level,” says Jason Xu, general manager of Edwards in China. “Our new facility includes a high-tech remanufacturing and service operation, providing improved turnaround time to customers, and also enables us to hold support stock and spares closer to our users.”
The opening of the new facility in Beijing comes 11 years after Edwards first established an office and service centre in Shanghai in 2000. This was further developed in 2006 to house the growing systemisation business which services local and global customers. Today, Edwards has over 200 staff in China serving the vacuum and abatement needs of a wide range of the fast growing industries in the country.
