CRAWLEY, UK (15 October 2009) – Crawley-based Edwards Limited has been ranked the largest mid-market privately-owned industrial company in Britain according to the latest Sunday Times HSBC Top Track 250 league table, published this month.

The leading global vacuum technology company is the eighth largest mid-market private company overall in the country, which is a rise of 15 places compared to last year. The table ranks Britain's 250 biggest mid-market private companies by sales as shown in their audited accounts.

Edwards founded the company in 1919. 90 years later, from its Crawley headquarters, Edwards has global reach, operating in over 20 countries and generating 50% of its sales in the Asia Pacific region. The company is world renowned for its high quality vacuum pumping systems for the scientific, industrial, chemical, pharmaceutical and semiconductor sectors.

Edwards is in its second full year operating as a private independent company and its annualised sales for 2008 were £509.8 million, an increase of 17% on the previous year.

Chief Executive Nigel Hunton commented, "We are delighted that we have increased our position and are now the leading company in the South East. In the last year we have relocated our headquarters within Crawley and are committed to the area. Continued investment in research and development means we are well placed to make progress selling into the solar cell, scientific instrumentation and high purity steel processing markets."
