Skanska Rashleigh Weatherfoil selects two 90-NET/300kVA for 30 St Mary Axe
Skanska
Rashleigh Weatherfoil has awarded Chloride Power Protection
the contract to supply the UPS infrastructure for the unique
Swiss Re building at 30 St Mary Axe, in the heart of London’s
financial centre.
The UPS project, designed and specified by Hilson Moran Partnership
and engineered by Chloride Power Protection, involves the
building, installation and commissioning of two 90-NET/300kVA
UPS units.
The design requirement was for a 300kVA N+1 scheme with expansion capability to meet a future, anticipated total requirement of 600kVA N+1. This UPS configuration ensures that the mission critical loads designated by the client are supported 24/7.
90-NET combines modern digital technology with power supply protection. Chloride’s digital control system, Vector Control, enables all overloads, frequency variations, transient disturbances, brief interruptions and blackouts to be eliminated in real time. This new method of digitally processing signals is 10 times quicker than current analogue methods.
30 St Mary Axe’s 40-storey landmark, nicknamed ‘the gherkin’ because of its original design, will be the capital’s first environmentally progressive tall building. The site is the new headquarters for global reinsurance company Swiss Re, but will also have publicly accessible retail outlets and restaurants to serve the local working community.
Alan Fry, Chloride Technical Support Director comments: “90-NET’s upgradeable capability was a key reason why the Chloride solution was chosen for this application. Should the need arise, 90-NET can be expanded with up to eight parallel configured units.”
Chloride Power Protection is a significant provider of UPS solutions for the financial services industry. This major new contract reinforces Chloride’s reputation for delivering life-long power protection for mission critical applications in major installations throughout the world.
