Snowdon expedition raises over £20,000 for Tsunami appeal
Twelve
employees from BOC Edwards’ manufacturing site in Shoreham
have raised over £20,000 for the Tsunami appeal by cycling
up Snowdon. The twelve men battled through severe snowstorms,
blizzards and thick fog to reach the 1000m summit, completing
the challenge in just three hours.
Derek Savidge, who organised the event, describes the conditions:
“At one point we found ourselves in the middle of a
blizzard and all we could see was the person in front of us.
We had to dismount and push the bikes in order to carry on.”
Regular
Snowdon climbers were surprised to see the men making the
ascent on mountain bikes but cheered them on to the finish.
Savidge adds: “The conditions were really against us
but we were all so determined to make the fundraiser a success.
BOC Edwards had offered to treble any pledges made so we knew
that we could raise a significant amount.”
The twelve men who took part in the event were: Derek Savidge,
Andy Mann, Jack Tattersall, Charlie Eustace, Craig Elliott,
Phil Stephens, David Engerran, Mark Odlum, Keith Savidge,
Mick Mills, Lee Gray, Steve Chapple.
