Leading health and beauty company seeks Boston’s technology innovators
13 October 2008 - The innovation arm of Europe's leading health
and beauty retailer is coming to Boston in December to seek out new technologies
for its vast European retail network comprising 3,200 health and beauty
stores and access to over 135,000 pharmacies.
Alliance Boots is a leading international pharmacy-led health and beauty
group and Boots Centre for Innovation seeks out new technologies and products
that can be developed into pioneering new healthcare products.
The event, which takes place over two days in Cambridge, is free to American
entrepreneurs and innovators and provides an opportunity to pitch their
ideas to the company's senior executives.
It begins with a half day conference on health and beauty trends presented
by Boots experts followed by a series of private one-to-one sessions at
which pre-selected entrepreneurs pitch their product concepts.
The Centre is already working with a number of US companies, and its management
team believes that the country's large, sophisticated life science market
will be the source of exciting new products and technologies which can be
developed in partnership with their inventors and then sold through Boots
stores.
Managing director of Boots Centre for Innovation Dr Ged O'Shea hopes that
the event will attract a wide range of participants, from university specialists
to small companies with ground-breaking ideas.
"There are some amazing products and technologies out there, and our
aim is to stimulate the development of new applications that can benefit
the general public - as well as providing business opportunities for their
inventors," he explains.
"We believe there are market opportunities for new solutions across
the healthcare spectrum, from diagnostic devices to pain relief. We offer
entrepreneurs a unique combination of advice, funding and a route to market
for their inventions, so if their researchers have innovative ideas, we'd
like to work with them to develop the next generation of health and beauty
products."
The Centre has identified ten key consumer areas of interest, including
finding improved ways to diagnose, treat and monitor key aspects of health,
beauty and well-being; supporting positive ageing through products and devices
for mind and body; and minimising the complications of living with chronic
conditions.”
