Boots Centre for Innovation brings together finest minds of British business, academia and medicine
22
February 2008 - Leading figures in academia, medicine, science and technology
and retail met earlier this month at the Institute of Life Science in Swansea
to discuss the nation’s future healthcare needs and drivers.
The 2015 Summit is the first event to be hosted by the recently opened Boots
Centre for Innovation, a not-for-profit organisation that identifies, and
facilitates the development of, pioneering health and beauty products.
The one-day event, which incorporated presentations and working groups,
provided the 34 attendees with a unique opportunity to share knowledge,
views and predictions on a variety of healthcare-related topics. These included:
The impact of global trends; developments in nanotechnology and nanohealth;
current and future healthcare legislation; next generation consumer needs.
Professor Marc Clement, internationally renowned for his work in light-based
therapy, and Vice Chancellor and Chief Executive of the University of Wales,
who spoke at the event explained the importance of the event’s style
of knowledge sharing.
" Many talk about ‘open innovation’ but few are courageous
enough to truly foster it. By bringing together leading minds from such
a diverse and yet complementary group it enables us to achieve a much clearer
picture of how we might deliver, and receive, healthcare in the future.”
Ged O’Shea, Head of Product Development for Alliance Boots and Head
of the Boots Centre for Innovation comments on the Centre’s role.
" The Centre is focused on identifying future customer needs, stimulating
global innovation and providing the expertise and network to bring ideas
to life. The challenge goes out to everyone active and interested in the
healthcare arena to put their ideas to us.”
Other attendees included: Professor of Reproductive Biology Cancer Research
and Reproductive Science at Swansea University, John White; Director of
New Product Introduction and Development at Alliance Boots, Liz Morgan;
Bioscience Sector Manager, Technology and Innovation Department for the
Economy and Transport (Welsh Assembly Government), Dr Bob Wallis; and Honorary
Consultant Rheumatologist, Bro Morgannwg NHS Trust, Dr Stefan Siebert, MBBCh,
MRCP, PhD.
The Boots Centre for Innovation intends to repeat the summit twice a year,
focusing on the future of the healthcare industry.
