Growing demand for UK-based electromechanical sub-assembly confirmed by launch of new manufacturing group
Offshore facilities fail to meet increasing need for specialist skills, reduced lead times and flexibility in supply, says Clifford Friel, Managing Director, Alpha 3 Manufacturing
The Alpha 3 Manufacturing Group, encompassing three UK-based electromechanical sub-contract manufacturing businesses, is formally launched this week. The new business has been formed to meet a growing demand for UK-based specialist electromechanical sub-assembly in high mix, low to medium volume products which is not easily met by offshore facilities.
Alpha 3 Manufacturing Group has been formed to consolidate Abacus Group’s manufacturing businesses under one organisation and encompasses the three existing businesses: CCS Electronics in Runcorn, Cheshire; CTL Manufacturing in Stonehouse, Gloucestershire; and DEM Manufacturing (formerly Deltron Emcon) in Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire. All three will continue to operate under their own brands.
Between them, the three facilities provide UK-wide coverage and an impressive capability in value-added manufacturing. This ranges from cable harness wiring to custom enclosures, as well as all types of electro-mechanical sub-assembly and construction of specialist EMC filters, aluminium boxes, broadcast products and connectors. The organisation is dedicated to lean manufacturing philosophy as the vehicle for continuous improvement in quality, cost, delivery and service.
Clifford Friel, Alpha 3’s Managing Director, explains: “When it comes to specialist industrial products in sectors such as industrial, medical and defence, we can offer UK customers superior support and greater flexibility throughout the development and manufacturing cycle than can be claimed by off-shore facilities. Particularly for complicated high mix, small to medium volume runs, we can shorten the design-to-market lead-time and increase confidence in the quality of the final product.”
“The Alpha 3 businesses are all already highly successful in their own right” continues Friel. “With the benefits of centralised management and the opportunities of cross selling, Alpha 3 is in a strong position going forward.”
Specifically, Alpha 3’s offering encompasses component sourcing, product design, prototype build, complete product manufacture and potential for vendor reduction. Resources include sophisticated CAD and CAM software, CNC machining capability, automated cut, crimp and strip machines, clean room capability, and final testing.
